HET 160

Troubleshooting & Maintenance

Hetty comes in pink and yellow, (and very occasionally a completely different colour!). Most Hetty models are simply different colours with the same black top hat. Generally, if your model number says HET160/200 then it will be a standard Hetty model.

There is no difference. Same powerful motor, same compact size, same high-efficiency filtration and same size filter bags! Click here to find out more about Henry and Hetty models.

After a while of collecting dust and dirt around the home Hetty can sometimes not smell as fresh as she could. To remedy this, we would recommend first;

  1. Giving her a fresh new HepaFlo Filter Bag and a wipe around the drum.
  2. Check out our blog here for the best tips on keeping her fresh.
  3. If she is still giving off a smell after this, you could try a MicroFresh Filter which contains activated charcoal to trap unwanted smells.

We do not recommend the use of scent beads or fragrance inside Hetty; this can damage your Hetty and invalidate your warranty.

Hetty and friends are fitted with an automatic thermal cut-out switch. This might cut in if Hetty has been running for an extended period of time. If Hetty feels hot, allow her to cool down for up to an hour. Once cooled down Hetty should reset herself. This is a safety feature to prevent Hetty getting too hot.

It’s a well-known fact that Hetty loves a corner. Why does she get stuck? It’s the law. If she gets stuck, gently coax her away from the corner using her handle. Please don’t pull her by her hose!

Hetty and friends are designed to have peak suction in a variety of situations; however, they can sometimes become blocked with debris. We would recommend checking Hetty thoroughly for blockages. Click here to find out how.

All of Hetty’s brains (motor) are stored in her top hat. This has many benefits, including better cooling airflow to the motor and less chance of anything nasty ending up in the electrics. To keep her as stable as possible, make sure all cable is pulled out from your Hetty and on older models, ensure the ‘Hetty’ logo is facing the same way as her face.

Has your Hetty developed a vibrating or shaking feeling whilst in use? This is usually caused by a blockage somewhere in your Hetty. We would recommend checking your Hetty thoroughly for blockages. Click here to find out how.

No. Hetty and friends are designed to be used with a bag. Genuine HepaFlo Filter Bags not only collect dirt and dust, but act as a barrier to protect the motor of your Hetty, they also prevent dust and dirt escaping back into the room. Click here to check our bag options.

With average usage your bag may last for up to a month. However, when you need to change your Hetty’s bag is entirely dependent on personal usage. You may notice that your Hetty has started to feel heavy or has less suction than before. Click here to check out our bag options.

Henry and Hetty are brother and sister. Although they have sibling squabbles, they are always here to keep dust and dirt at bay!

When using Genuine HepaFlo Filter Bags, a Hetty filter needs minimal cleaning. You can remove the filter and shake any excess dust into a carrier bag. Please note Hetty’s filter is not washable, as this can degrade the materials of the filter or introduce moisture into your motor.

No. Hetty is designed for dry use only. Please check out our wet pick-up range here.

The Stainless Steel Tubes on Hetty and friends are held together by friction, which means sometimes they can get stuck together especially if dust or dirt gets trapped between the joining sections. To remove the tubes;

  1. You can use a lubricant such as furniture polish to help ease them apart, remembering to pull AND twist.
  2. If accessories are stuck to the tubes, we recommend gently heating the plastic (whilst taking caution to not burn yourself), which should allow them to be removed easily.

We also recommend regularly wiping tubes and accessories where they join to prevent this happening. Please note, this does not apply to Henry/Hetty/Numatic Quick models as they contain different electrical components.

The UK WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) Regulations aim to reduce the amount of electrical products which are incinerated or landfilled. The Regulations encourage the recovery, reuse and recycling of electrical products and their components. Producers of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) must play a part in managing end of life electrical products to protect the environment – we work in partnership with REPIC to ensure that electricals are responsibly recycled.
